The opening ceremony of the new academic year 2017 -2018 at the Romanian-American University (RAU) took place on Monday, October 2, in the Aula Magna, in the presence of students and graduates with their families, FRAPEC’s representatives, faculty, administrative staff, representatives of social partners in education, mass-media and the business environment, and the last but not the least members of the diplomatic corps accredited in Bucharest, such as Mr. Ron Hawkins, U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Counselor in Romania.
RAU Rector Ovidiu Folcuţ reconfirmed both the continuous RAU’s qualitative preoccupation with a better understanding of students’ rising needs and expectations in academic quality, employability and the facilities offered to them, and the significant focus placed on internationalization, and capitalising on the latest educational techniques, cooperating with the actors on the labour market while considering scientific, technological, and social and economic evolutions, including the necessary attention for today’s digital customer experience. Professor Ovidiu Folcuţ also announced that RAU will commemorate on October 5, 2017 nine years from the passing to eternity of Professor Ion Smedescu, Founding-President and Rector of the Romanian-American University.
Distinguished Guests were then invited to take the floor: Mr. Leonard Orban, State Councillor with the Presidential Administration (and Professor at RAU); Mr. Ron Hawkins, U.S. Embassy Public Affairs Counselor in Romania, Mrs. Gilda Lazar, Head of Corporate Affairs & Communications, JTI Romania, Moldova & Bulgaria; Mr. Emil Bituleanu, CEO Libra Bank; Mr. Florin Ţâncu, General Director Weco Travel Romania, and President SKAL International Bucharest; Professor Dumitru Miron, PhD, President of the Romanian-American Foundation for the Promotion of Education and Culture (FRAPEC); Ms. Eliza Chirilă, American Councils Romania Country Representative (http://americancouncils.ro/# ), former President of the RAU Students Councils, an former Youth Delegate to the United Nations. All speakers RAU on its achievements and its constant progress towards best approaching the increasingly international context and responsibly and accountably teaching students to adequately apply what they have learned.
At the end of the opening ceremony RAU Rector Ovidiu Folcuţ awarded Diplomas of Excellence to the RAU students who achieved outstanding performance in the previous academic year.
It is also worth mentioning that the RAU School of Management-Marketing (MM) marked the official Opening of the Academic year in the afternoon of the same day, in the presence of the whole MM family, and distinguished guests such as RAU Rector Ovidiu Folcuţ, and Members of the Advisory Board of the RAU School of Management-Marketing. This opening ceremony was moderated by the Dean Costel Negricea, who reconfirmed MM’s assumed responsibility and determination in implementing the vision revealed on the occasion of the RAU official Opening of the Academic Year, by better understanding how to leverage MM culture in this implementation (strategy, tactics, and academic business plan), considering – beyond the competitive framework etc. – the latest tools, techniques and the practical framework for successfully executing MM’s strategy in today’s fast changing learning and business environments, including adequately approaching learning innovation in the digital age.
